Use A Laptop As A Desktop

Have you a Laptop and want to know how to use the laptop as a desktop Computer with HDMI port’s help with an external keyboard and mouse? Read this article.

From the very beginning, you must know what things you required to set up your laptop as a desktop; all the steps are straightforward. 

 Follow my steps to know how to turn the laptop into a desktop.

Step 1:

First, you required a monitor, no matter what size, with an HDMI Port or Cable.

 Step 2:

Set up your monitor on a table or desk where you comfortable.

Step 3:

Attached the HDMI Cable to HDMI port of the monitor and turn it on.

Step 4:

On the other hand, turn on laptop and plug the other side of an HDMI port into the computer. When your laptop is on, you see your monitor work as desktop.

 In any case, you do not see any change, don’t worry; I will describe you with an example of how to convert a laptop into a desktop.

Duplicate Your Display:

Step 5:

Click on the notification button on the bottom right side of the taskbar.

Step 6:

Click on expand the menu.

Step 7:

Then click on Project option.

Step 8:

At last click on the Duplicate option

After following all the steps, you need to restart the laptop and notice your laptop convert into the Desktop Computer.

Except for Duplicate, there are several options available in the list. For example, if you click on PC Screen, you only use the laptop without another screen.

If you click on the third option, Extent, users can transfer files and data from small screen size to the desktop screen.

The last option in the list, ” Screen Size, ” means you only work on a large screen with your laptop keyboard or mouse.

Different Ways to Using a Laptop as a Desktop

Mini-HDMI:

Mini-HDMI port works the same as HDMI Port, but it is smaller than HDMI Port. If you have a laptop which gives you a Mini-HDMI Port and your Desktop Computer does not have Mini-HDMI Port.

In that case, you required Mini-HDMI to HDMI cable or a Mini-HDMI-to-HDMI adapter with an HDMI cable.

Micro HDMI:

When we move to the Micro HDMI PORT, it is the same as HDMI OR MINI-HDMI Port. The only difference is that it is a little smaller compared to HDMI OR MINI-HDMI Port. If your laptop has Micro HDMI Port and your desktop does not have in that case, you will be required to HDMI cable or a Micro HDMI to HDMI adapter with an HDMI cable

USB C:

Nowadays, many laptops come with USB TYPE C Port. You can also connect the computer with your monitor with USB TYPE C Port. 

If your laptop has USB C Port and your monitor does not have. In that case, you will need a USB-C to HDMI adaptor with an HDMI cable to convert the laptop into a desktop pc.

VGA:

VGA port is mostly used in old monitor models. VGA Port has 15 holes. It is only used for video connection. You will require a separate audio connection to connect your computer speaker. 

You also connect a laptop to monitor with VGA Port. You will need VGA to HDMI adaptor to connect VGA to latest monitor.

DVI:

DVI PORTS are also used in old laptops and computers. It has 24 holes with 24 pins. It is used for only video output.

For audio connection, you need a separate link to connect the speakers with your computer. If your laptop has DVI Port and your monitor does not, in this case, you will need a DVI to HDMI adaptor to connect your computer with another monitor.

Mini Display Port:

Mini Display Port also comes in the old MacBook and MacBook Pro Models. It is same as Thunderbolt shape, but they are the difference.

If your laptop has a Mini Display Port and your monitor does not, you will need a Mini Display Port to HDMI adaptor and HDMI cable to connect your old MacBook and MacBook Pro Models, external Monitors.

  Thunderbolt:

Thunderbolt 1 & 2 are mostly found in MacBook Pro or MacBook Air Computers. If your laptop has a Thunderbolt 1 & 2 and your monitor does not, you will need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor and an HDMI cable to connect your computer to monitor.

If your laptop has a Thunderbolt 3 & 4 in that case, you also connect your computer to monitor with USB C Port.

Is it wrong to use a laptop as a Desktop?

I describe using the laptop as a desktop, but it is not recommended for you to convert the computer into a desktop pc because it is harmful to your laptop life.

If you are using laptops as a desktop monitor, your laptop battery decreases very soon, and your computer is heated very quickly, affecting your laptop processing and performance.
